In the February newsletter. I wrote about the Bland Competition held on February 26. Fox Music was well represented with more than 7 young singers. Congratulations to Anna Katogiritis who won 2nd place, and to Annemarie Jones who won first place and went on to the regional competition.
In February, Fox Music started a class for middle school singers, ages 12-15 on Tuesday afternoons at 5:00. It has been very rewarding to see the kids learn by watching and listening to each other. They are growing as vocally and as performers, and they are finding motivation through the regular performance opportunities that the class provides. In April we started another class, this one for younger singers, ages 6-11. It meets on Wednesdays at 6:00pm.
The adult classes continue to grow as well. We now have adult classes in the evenings on Tuesdays at 7:30, Wednesdays at 8:00, and Thursdays at 7:30.
I’d like to remind everyone in any of the classes that if you miss a class, you are welcome to attend one of the other classes as a make up lesson. I only ask that you check with me ahead of time to make sure there is an opening for you in the class you wish to attend.
If you know anyone who would enjoy singing lessons, please let them know about Fox Music. If they sign up as a regular student you will get a $25 credit toward you next month of lessons as a thank you for your referral.
On Sunday, February 26, at 7:00pm the Bland Competition will be held at Bayside Presbyterian Church, 1400 Ewell Road, Virginia Beach. Sponsored by the Lions Club - this is an opportunity for middle and high school singers and instrumentalists to compete for a college scholarship. The competition is open for anyone to watch, and it is always a pleasure to hear these talented young people perform. I have at least 6 students who will be competing. Why not come cheer them on?
Beginning this month we are offering a new voice class. The class is specifically designed for middle school and older elementary school children. As in all of our voice classes we will include exercises to build a healthy vocal technique, improve range, and to develop power and control. We will also focus on learning and performing songs that are appropriate for many kinds of singing auditions. Students will grow in singing ability and in confidence as performers.
